Reading the tiles: three real Leaguedle puzzles solved from one guess

Our Leaguedle opener guide found that Irelia is the strongest first guess, leaving 2.3 champions on average. Averages hide something more interesting: for a lot of answers, one Irelia row is enough to name the champion outright, if you read every tile and know the roster. Here are three real Classic answers from Leaguedle’s first week, all of them solvable on the second guess.

Irelia’s row, for reference: Female, Top and Middle, Human and Magicborn, Mana, Melee, Ionia, released 2010.

29 October: Sett

The row came back like this.

ClueIreliaTile
GenderFemalered
PositionTop, Middleyellow
SpeciesHuman, Magicbornyellow
ResourceManared
Range typeMeleegreen
RegionIoniagreen
Release year2010arrow up

Start with the greens: a melee champion from Ionia. The red gender tile makes it male. The red Resource tile is the strongest clue on the board, because 145 of the 173 champions use mana and this one doesn’t. That leaves Lee Sin, Zed, Yasuo, Yone and Sett.

The arrow does the next cut. It points up with no amber, so the answer came out more than two years after 2010: Lee Sin (2011) and Zed (2012) would have shown amber. The yellows settle the last three. Yasuo is Human and Magicborn, which would have made Species green, and Yone plays exactly Top and Middle, which would have made Position green. Only Sett, a half-Vastaya top laner who fights with Grit, gives yellow on both.

30 October: Miss Fortune

ClueIreliaTile
GenderFemalegreen
PositionTop, Middlered
SpeciesHuman, Magicbornyellow
ResourceManagreen
Range typeMeleered
RegionIoniared
Release year2010green

A female, ranged, mana-using champion from 2010, not from Ionia, who plays neither Top nor Middle. Only two women released in 2010 fit that much: Sona and Miss Fortune. The yellow Species tile picks between them. Sona is Human and Magicborn, exactly like Irelia, so she would have shown green. Miss Fortune of Bilgewater is plain Human, one of Irelia’s two, which is what yellow means.

31 October: Lux

ClueIreliaTile
GenderFemalegreen
PositionTop, Middleyellow
SpeciesHuman, Magicborngreen
ResourceManagreen
Range typeMeleered
RegionIoniared
Release year2010green

A female Human Magicborn who uses mana, released in 2010, ranged and not from Ionia. Two champions fit those tiles, both from Demacia: Lux and Sona. Position decides it. Sona only plays Support, which shares nothing with Irelia’s Top and Middle and would have shown red. Lux plays Middle and Support, one lane in common, which is the yellow on the board.

How to read a row in the right order

  1. Greens first. They are facts about the answer, not about your guess. Write them down.
  2. Then the reds on common clues. A red on a clue most champions share, like Mana or Human, removes far more than a red on a rare one. In the Sett puzzle, the red Resource tile, with the two greens and the gender, cut 173 champions down to five.
  3. Then the arrow. Release year is the only number clue in Leaguedle. An amber tile means within two years.
  4. Yellows last. On list clues like Position and Species, yellow means “at least one shared, not all”. Pair it with what the greens already told you.

Why it’s still hard in practice

The maths says one champion left, but the board doesn’t tell you the name. You still have to recall which male Ionians are melee, or which 2010 champions are ranged. That’s why Leaguedle averaged 7.4 guesses in its first week even though a perfect reader could often finish in two. If a row leaves you stuck, the Leaguedle character list shows every champion’s clue values side by side, and it’s a fair way to learn the roster.
